Times are Hard, So Do Own Repairs.

I noticed that the corner shop near my house seems to be doing brisk business nowadays.
Times are Hard and people think twice nowadays whether to buy or not to buy.
If it's not broken, don't fix it.

It's Never Too Old To Learn Electronics.

Yesterday I read a post on one of the Electronics Forum on Teaching Electronics.
One guy wrote a book on Electronics Appliances Repair. He sold it on his website on the Internet.
He got alot of feedback emails asking if there's an age limit in studying electronics repairs.
One 79 years old guy bought his book and wanted to master computer monitors repair.
So he was telling his reasons why he wanted to learn even at his age.
He says that he got his passion in repairing electronics appliances since he was young but he took the wrong course and ended up as a teacher.

Some other folks said they got nothing much to do at this old age and decided to take up some skills. There's some who says it can pay for some of their beers.

Well, there's all sorts of people out there which you wont know what's in their mind.
Ok... I have some free downloads for you if you are interested.
it's kind of secrets....

drop by my site and download them for free here.

Power Supply Load.

For most of the Power Supply repairs, I noticed that most technicians do not know how or have the need to know how to use Power Loads.
For conventional power supplies, you do not need a load as you can measure it's output directly.
But for Switched Mode Power Supplies, you do need a load.
SMPS have a current sense to shut down the power supply if it sense a short or open circuitry.
It is light in weight and uses less components as compaired to it's conventional types.
My former post shows a few sencore courses which I bought for my learning experiences.
If you like, I can make it into dvd format for you or you can get it downloadable for a fee.
All the best.
Keep learning.

How to Repair an Electric Iron

Electric Irons are very cheap nowadays.
I wonder why one wants to repair it anyway.
So I was walking along a lonely street few days ago and I came across a lady carry an electric iron.
As she was approaching me, I stopped for a moment.
There she was asking me some questions.
I thought she wanted some street directions.
But I guessed wrong.
She wanted to know where to send her electric iron for repair.
She said she has gone to almost all the electrical shop in town and she couldn't find someone to do the repair for her.
I was surprised to know that.
Then I asked why she wanted to repair it.
She said she had sentimental value in it.
So I offered to help out.
I took it back to my workbench and have a close look at it.
There I found the neutral wire open circuit with a burn mark.
Tested the element and found it intact.
So I changed the whole length of cable and tested it out.
Works perfect.
There I returned it to a complete stranger.
The smile on her face makes me happy too.
